From the Lowest to the Highest

The elevation of Scioto County ranges from the low water mark of 464 feet above mean sea level along the Ohio River at the Adams County line to an elevation of 1340 ft above mean sea level approximately two miles southeast of Mt Joy on Grass Knob.

The site at one time was the location of the Grass Knob Fire Lookout Tower.

Forest rangers from Brush Creek State Forest once manned the lookout tower watching over the immense landscape looking for outbreaks of wild fires.

Fire lookout towers are no longer used in detect wildfires in Ohio so most of them have been taken down over the years including the one at Grass knob.

A gated access road leads to the site of the old Grass Knob Fire Tower off Crabtree Cemetery Drive.
