Giddy Up and Go

A unique adventure awaits those horse enthusiasts who want to ride the trails and camp with their horses near beautiful Bear Lake in Shawnee Forest.

The horse camp includes 60-campsites which are available on a first come first serve basis and have tie rails, latrines and water for the horses.


There are 75-miles of bridle trails in Shawnee State Forest with most directly accessible from the horse camp.

The Southern Ohio Chapter of the Ohio Horseman’s Council volunteers to help maintain the campsite and the numerous bridle trails in Shawnee State Forest.

Bear Lake is located off Shawnee StateForest Road 6 approximately 6-miles northwest of Camp OYO Boy Scout camp.

Directions

Turning off Ohio 125 at Camp OYO go north on Shawnee Forest Road 1 approximately 3.75 miles to Shawnee Forest Road 4. 

Go west on Shawnee Forest Road 4 approximately 1.5 miles to Shawnee Forest Road 6.

Go west on Shawnee Forest Road 6 approximately 3/4 of a mile to Bear Lake.
