A Camping We Will Go
Constructed during
the Great Depression in the 1930's by the Civil Conservation Corps (CCC) Camp Oyo makes its home on 52 acres near
the Shawnee State Forest 10 miles west of Portsmouth off State route 125.
The camp is still in use
today by scouts from all over the region and maintains a dining hall, caretaker's residence, 6 lodges, 2 maintenance
buildings, 2 cabins, handicraft center, cook's cabin, shower house, and a pool.
The camp is named after
what the indians called the Ohio River, OYO (Oh-HEE-oh) however the locals call the camp Oh-YO.
