Hiking Through Ohio

The Shawnee section of the nearly 1,444 mile Buckeye Trail that streches from Lake Erie at Cleveland to a hill overlooking the Ohio River at Cincinnati loops along the Scenic Scioto Heritage Trail.

The Shawnee Section follows back country roads for several miles, passing through the small towns of Mineral Springs and Wamsley in Adams County.

Entering Shawnee State Forest in Scioto County, the Buckeye Trail follows several forest trails, including the Backpack Loop Trail.

The Buckeye Trail leaves the state forest along the Wilderness Loop trail and continues on back roads into the West Union Section.

The Buckeye Trail Association oversees management of the entire trail. This volunteer organization plans the trail routes and relocations, builds the trail, and paints the blazes. They also provide information to the general public, and education about the outdoors.
